
Larry Marino is the Director of Operations of KRLA, KTIE and KKLA in Los Angeles and is the News Director of NewsTalk 870 KRLA, Los Angeles and NewsTalk 590 (KTIE) in San Bernardino. Larry does news mornings (6am-9am) on KRLA 870 in Los Angeles for the Laura Ingraham Radio Program. Larry hosts "The Larry Marino Show," now heard at noon on Newstalk 590 KTIE.
In addition to radio, Larry's broadcast work includes TV News. He has been a reporter for KRBC/ KACB-TV in Abilene, Texas. He also teaches Radio/Television News and production at the University of La Verne. He also fills in for various national talk-radio hosts including Michael Savage. He has been a frequent guest on Newstalk Television and other media news programs.
With two decades of professional experience, Larry Marino is a veteran broadcast talk-host. He joined the Salem group of stations KKLA, KRLA in Los Angeles after developing and hosting KPCCs well received "Talk of the City." He has served as news anchor at Metro Networks, Los Angeles. He has hosted two nationally syndicated radio programs carried on 80 stations and has worked in television as a Cover Story reporter in Texas. As a journalist he has written and produced radio news stories for Associated Press, United Press International, CBS News and ABC radio news. Marinos broad range of interests and genuine curiosity has won him many loyal listeners. Larry became interested in radio at the age of five when he toured the studios of a local station that broadcast from the basement of the Pasadena Presbyterian Church. By age eleven, young Marino had run a wire between his and neighboring homes in order to broadcast to them, powered by a nine volt battery. On KLAR, as he called it, Marino played music and read the news.
Marino received his Associate in Arts Degree in Telecommunications from Pasadena City College and was selected to be a life member of that schools honor socieity.. His first professional job was as a technical assistant at KPCC. After graduating from the University of La Verne with a B.A. degree, Marino worked at a series of radio and television stations around California and Texas, hosting big band, easy listening, and country music programs. Intent on his career, he took shifts at a station in Ontario that required him to work until midnight and then sleep in a station office until he started up again at 6:00 a.m. He did stints at KKZZ, KOTE in Lancaster, and KAMM in Bakersfield where he hosted mornings and was the Program Director. In 1988, He moved to Texas and helped put a new station on the air. It was at KTCE (KKHR) in Abilene, Texas, Marino was finally able to realize his dream of being a news man. He went on to work as a television reporter and Cover Story reporter for NBC affiliate KRBC/KACB. There he covered politics and breaking news. You could find Marino on the scene with "live-shots" many nights. Abilene, Texas located in the center of Tornado alley provided many interesting weather stories as well.
Although he loved the TV news business, televisions limitations prompted him to move back to radio. "In T.V. you work all day to tell a story in two minutes. You spend too much time making sure your hair isnt blowing or that your tie is straight," he says. "I like talk radio because you have time to go beyond the soundbites and the headlines."
In 1992, the Independent Broadcasters Network in Clearwater Florida hired him to be Production Director, In 1994 they selected him to host their national morning show. The program aired on 100 stations across the U.S. including many major markets. His guests on the program ranged from Jay Leno to Hillary Clinton. In 1995 Sun Radio Network picked Larry to produce and host a brand new National Morning show called "Marino in the Morning."
Although Larry's programs could be heard on several stations in California, it was In 1996 he moved back to Los Angeles to join Metro-Networks, Los Angeles where he anchored the news on KABC radio. At the same time, he joined Salem Los Angeles' KKLA. Soon after, he helped launch KPCC's "Talk of the City" in 1996. Larry also created a talk show on K-Light (KLTX).
When Salem Communications acquired the 870 AM frequency in Los Angeles they choose him to host KIEV's morning show in August of 1998. Larry was promoted to afternoon drive personality in 2000. And in 2001 he was promoted to Director of Operations for Salem Los Angeles. Today, Larry works both in managment and on-air, Splitting his time between on-air duties and working behind the scenes. Larry has recently helped create a new program on Salem's KTIE, "The Larry Marino Show" designed for the Inland Empire.
In addition to his on air work in Los Angeles Larry can be heard as a fill-in host for top national radio syndicated hosts: Michael Savage, Jerry Doyle, Rusty Humpries, and John Bradshaw Layfield on Talk Radio Network.
In additon to his work on the air, Larry is active in the community. He supports may helping organizations in the community recently was Emcee of the 2004 Leaders of Distinction Awards. Larry has been awarded 'Outstanding Humanitarian' for his efforts to re-open the Women's dorm of the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles. Recently, He developed a new radio program called 'Orange County Focus' which airs on KFSH and KXMX in Orange County on weekends.
